Volunteer Park Elopement | Kelsey + Jeff

Kelsey and Jeff’s Volunteer Park elopement is a true testament to rolling with the punches when things don’t go 100% to plan on your wedding day (because hey, they rarely do).

Kelsey first reached out to me about photographing her elopement at the courthouse in downtown Seattle. She and Jeff wanted to do their wedding day their way - they recognized when their wedding started to run away from them and become less about celebrating their union and more about the things that maybe didn’t matter so much (props to them!). For them, the courthouse represented the one moment of the day that would feel like THEIR day. I am all on board for making sure that you’re doing your wedding in a way that is true to you as a couple. However that looks. Eloping at the courthouse? Beautiful! Inviting 300 guests and throwing a multi-day rager? I’m there! Long gone are the days where your wedding day has to fit into a box.

The elopement day was approaching, and we were all set to meet at the courthouse and capture some photos downtown afterward, when I got a message from Kelsey that plans had changed, the courthouse had fallen through due to some last minute clerical errors, and we needed a plan b. They let me know that they trusted me completely and let me take care of finding the perfect backup option. After talking through a few locations, we landed on Volunteer Park - Kelsey used to live nearby and she and Jeff would walk their dogs through the park together, so it held some significance.

We arrived to Volunteer Park after a morning of pretty non-stop rain. Not exactly what you hope to see when you wake up on your wedding day, but I had hope in Seattle’s bipolar weather changing last minute. And it did! When we arrived, we were rewarded with those beautiful vibrant colors that only appear after it rains. Dewy green plants and soft purple skies. It was BEAUTIFUL. We wandered through the park, Kelsey and Jeff exchanged rings, and we ended the shoot with some photos at her old apartment. Perfect day.

If you have any questions about planning your own unique elopement, I’d love to help you!
